How to Claim (Activate) My CUNYfirst Account


In order to utilize CUNYfirst, users must claim (activate) their account first through the identity Management System (IMS).

Step Action
1 Go to https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu

Hint: Make sure to add an "s" after http
2 Click the First time users link.

First Time Users
3 Enter:
  1. First Name
  2. Last Name
  3. DOB (mm/dd/yyyy)
  4. Both words appearing on the ReCAPTCHA with a space in between each word.

Account Activation
Hint:
  • Use correct capitalization for the First Name and Last Name fields
  • Make sure DOB is entered in the format "two-digit month (forward slash) two-digit day (forward slash) four-digit year."
4 Click the Ok button.

Select your Challenge Questions and Answers - you need five of them. Choose each question from the dropdown, and then type in your answer.

Challenge Questions
Hints:
  • Make it memorable
  • Don't repeat questions
  • Answers are not case sensitive and must be at least two characters long
6 Click the Ok button.

Choose a Password. Your password must:

  • be at least eight characters long
  • contain at least one UPPERCASE character
  • contain at least one numeral or a symbol

Your CUNYfirst account is now activated.

After you have claimed your account you will receive this confirmation screen with your user name and EMPLID (Employee ID). It will be your first name, last name and the last two digits of your emplid.

(i.e. John Smith would be john.smith12)

Notes:
  • Print the page or write your EmplID (CUNY ID) down and put this in a safe place.
  • Record and safeguard your CUNY ID.
  • To Login, go to https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu and use the credentials your just entered.
