CUNYfirst stands for Fully Integrated Resources and Services Tool and for CUNY it means a massive upgrade in how we'll do things in the future. New CUNYfirst processes in Student Administration, Human Resources and Finance will change how we do everything from registering for classes to paying our bills.

The CUNYfirst system consists of three sections or pillars:

1. Campus Solution [Student Administration]
2. Human Resources [Employees Administration]
3. Finance [Business Administration]

Yes. Effective March 9, 2012, CUNYfirst is the new Student/Staff Information Management System. It will affect students, faculty and staff.

The implementation means that many processes we have used for years will be altered to meet the high standards of our students, faculty and staff.

CUNYfirst Campus Solutions replaces eSIMS, SIMS and a few OSSES Components.

The answer is Systems vs. System. Our current systems, which are several, operate to conduct all our business at CUNY. Very few of them interact with each other. CUNYfirst will integrate all our financial, HR and student processes so that data can be used instantaneous across departments and across the university.

A. If you have already claimed (activated) your CUNYfirst account and know your User ID and Password:

The CUNYfirst system is hosted by our partners from Oracle at a site in Atlanta, Georgia. That means our data and processes are going back and forth on the highest quality data lines from New York to there. Each day, current CUNY data is replicated at a second site every 15 minutes, also in Georgia, but far enough away to ensure that any compromises at the primary site (weather, natural disaster, etc.) will not be replicated because of proximity.

The systems are backed up every night. In case of a shutdown at our primary site, a recovery plan has already been created to ensure a smooth transition to the backup data, and, when our technical teams have it available again, a smooth transition to our primary site.

No. CUNYfirst is being hosted outside CUNY. Users will log onto CUNYfirst, via their Internet browser, directly into their processes. There is no second step.

1. If you forgot your password you can visit the Forgot Password page to reset it. To do this you must know:
• Your User ID or Empl ID and
• The answers to your Challenge Questions
2. If you know your password and would like to change it, you can visit the Password Change page. To do this you must know:
• Your User ID or Empl ID and
• Your old password

Note: You can also update your Challenge Questions at this time.

1. If you can’t remember your old password or the answers to the Challenge Questions, you can reclaim your CUNYfirst account by visiting the first time users activation page.

 

CUNYfirst accounts are locked for a period of 1 hour after 5 unsuccessful login attempts. You can try  logging in after this time period.

A valid CUNYfirst password must meet all of the following conditions:

1. Password must be at least 8 characters long
2. Password must not be one of 4 previous passwords
3. Your password must have at least one numeric character OR one special character
4. Password must contain at least 1 upper case letter
5. Password will expire 90 days after the last password change
6. Password change reminder will be sent 85 days after the last password change
7. Password cannot be changed for 5 days after the last password change

The CUNYfirst password expires every 90 days after the last password change.

Note: A password change reminder will be sent 85 days after the last password change.
